The trends for MMOs seem to be: Miss the initial release date by 6 month, and rush out the product with loose ends so that you do not miss it by another 6 months, then hopefully patch everything eventually. This is not just a GW phenomenon.
FPS however, will go through phases of being considered vapourware and miss deadlines by years to be finally released almost spot on, most of the glitches fixed in a month or so.

Personally, I would love to see Arenanet open GW up to 3rd party campaigns. They'd have to be separate campaigns, and not expansions to existing ones. They'd also have to release some sort of balance tools to make sure that any new skills or professions weren't unbalancing to the existing ones. Otherwise, if quality control was well in enforced, it'd really open things up.
Otherwise, I see no reason why A.Net couldn't move a small team to GW1 updates, and simply release a new island or mini campaign every few months, along w/ some new weapon skins, armor skins, and possible skills.

I suggested the same thing about a year ago, I still think its a good idea.
And GW2 hasn't been delayed. GW1 will still be consistently updated but after the Bonus Pack is released I haven't a clue whats going to happen .

1. Gaile said 8.5 million times that "All Dev resources are dedicated to GW2," which implies that they won't work on GW1.
2. It wouldn't make sense. Unlike games like WoW, GW doesn't need to hook players with holidays due to the pricing structure. Everyone who is a GW fan has already given ArenaNet the money they require.

I think I could really care less any way it happens. I'm sure I could use the time away from GW once I get sick of it to actually focus 10000% on school. GW can be such a distraction sometimes..

I'd like to vote for:
Keep GW2 on schedule but add a third team to keep making GW1 expansions once a year
or
Keep GW2 on schedule and create a GW-style game of another genre... like cyberpunk.

Supersize for me please
And yes, the game engine as it is now could easily be used for different things/games...
But it would still feel like Guild Wars, and probably play like Guild Wars too... and some of you may be able to handle that, or even want it, but I'm kinda Guild Wars burnt out

1. There is no "on-time" for GW2.
2. Bonus Mission already being released for GW1.

I HIGHLY prefer 1 or 2 -- I want them to continue on GW1 so I can continue playing it. GW2 is still TWO freakin years away. That's a long time. GW1 I already have a LOT invested into and I LOVe the game and would LOVE to see it keep evolving. KEEP GUILD WARS 1 ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Blizzard does have a great policy on game releases. They will not release anything that does not meet their high standard of excellence. I think ANet feels the same way.

lofl must have forgot about that mini-overpriced expansion-gwen. Ah, but i guess the reuse of all the territories, armors, dungeon levels, and the like HAS to have met some kind of standard, right?.....RIGHT?

GWEN is (for the most part) a quality expansion. The voice acting and graphics are the best yet. The missions actually try to get away from Fed-ex and kill "x" amount of creatures (although, obviously, Reputation points are all about killing creatures).
The high quality of parts of the game make the reskins and reused areas seem like part of the game was rushed...

Surely with how well GW1 has sold they could hire a few extra programmers to work on GW1 while the original people already dedicated to GW2 stay on that. I'm not sure if I'm interested in GW2 or not..but I LOVE GW1 and really would like to see more development/fixes on it. GW:EN was a disappointment overall.

unsure about how long dev. would take so i put in roughly some time.

ANet should push hard to get GW2 out soon, with Blizzard-like high quality. If that means completely abandoning GW1 (other than running servers), so be it. Dump the GW1 tournaments, holidays, enhancements -- put 100% of their effort behind GW2.
GW1 is simply not going to sustain a significant population over the next year-and-a-half to two years. And the longer it takes for GW2 to come out, the more people who will become invested in other games.
Don't believe for a minute that GW2 is being written *only* because GW1 had a limited engine. GW2 is being written for very sound BUSINESS reasons. Despite the propaganda about selling "four million copies", the reality is that GW sales are FLAT. The player base is not growing, and (looking at the number of districts for the Halloween festival) it may well be SHRINKING.
ANet should focus all its energies on GW2; any other course is suicide.

Glad you know so much about GW sales. Care to share the data to back up your assertion? (and no, looking at the number of districts during Halloween is not scientific).
Bottom line: Anet only makes money when product is sold. It doesn't matter how many people are currently playing the game, all that matters is how many people are buying Guild Wars products (including the $30 worth of product for the Bonus Missions).
And no, I don't think Anet has to rush GW2. Sure, a strong player base will help GW2, but honestly, I don't think GW2 will only appeal to current Guild Wars players. The changes being made (no level cap, more races, persistant content), all says to me that GW2 is being designed to attract a larger market.
I guess in someways, I agree with what you are saying, because I don't think Anet has to support Guild Wars in order for GW2 to succeed....
BUT I don't think it will hurt to continue PvP, continue having Guild Wars events, and maybe some small additional upgrades just to keep some cash coming in. But most of Anets resources should be working on making GW2 the best game possible, because in the end, that's all that really matters.

Such oxymoron. GW died a little (probably more than a little) today when Hellgate London is released.
D2 on crack with guns = awesome.
